BOTH SIDES NOW

As one of my favourite songs go, I look at life from Both Sides Now. Especially the Sharon Cuneta version... I even sang this song at GS Studio Waikiki on 7/20/19 in our karaoke session with Mike, Paul and his family and Dave and Sherri. My 1st song was I forgot n, followed by Top of the World by Karen Carpenter (where Mike made a candid video of me and I posted it eventually on FB) and Both Sides Now n dayon. I even cried then when Mike sang Flying by the Peter Moon Band. I was touched man gud by the lyrics of the song. Asa k anang 'Flying, soon you will be flying... leaving just a memory' Alisa then said, I can't understand why somebody would cry at karaoke. Hahah, intawon. Anyway, the next day we were going for dinner at Bubba Gump, in the top floor of Ala Moana Center when Dave told me that I sing so much better than those guys daw who were in the bar somewhere nearby so I should just tell them to go away kuno. Sila maoy mga supervisors ni Kyle sa internship last semester. When I looked at YCAPS' website today, 7/22/22, sila Jeff and Jenna n lagi ang Program Director and Program Officer respectively sa ilang Community Conversations Series. Wala n siguroy Getting to Know Japan series kay ang last giadvertise kay ang talk man ni Dr. Michael Bosack on August 4 pohon. Ang Community Conversations n lng siguroy nabilin with funding from Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF). This time kay na'na mn jud lagis Yayoi Watabe nga moattend sa ilang webinars. BRAZIL

This morning 7/20/22 when I opened my email, I saw a possibility to submit a speaking proposal for the QS Higher Education Summit for the Americas in Brazil in September pohon. It will be a hybrid event man so for sure, if ever madawat man gani ko pohon. Ingnon ra jud japon ko siguro to just join via Zoom. 3 YEARS

Tinuod, kadali ra jud sa panahon. 3 years n ang akong infamous Hawai'i trip. Of course the pandemic happened and all that. But suffice it to say that when I was in Hawai'i, I had my CHED money then. So pwede ra jud ta lagi nga akong giulian si Mike for the cost of my ticket and visa. But then, iya man lagi kong giinvite so ang dress, laptop ug unsa n to ang akong gusto n lng ta nga ulian. As it is, maybe we can say that time heals all wounds. We are on speaking terms ra mn pud siguro ni Mike. He replies man pud when I email him. But I am sure di n jud ko pwede lagi nga mobalik pas ilaha sa Kaneohe. Gipada n gud ug uli akong clothes from there last year. But then ang akong green slippers tua japon didto. Still, I wasn't allowed to attend my aunt's funeral last February 25th, 2022. I respected their wish for privacy too. Sakto ra pud coz makautang n nya pud ko ato ug limpak2 n salapi and maglisud n pud ko ug bayad. I should just let TIME take its course. Basin p diay ug makabalik ra lagi japon ko didto pohon. QS HIGHER EDUCATION AMERICAS

Title of Paper: Redefining Higher Education in the Philippines during the Pandemic: Case Study of Cebu Doctors’ University, Cebu, Philippines CELO+ Higher education has always been challenging in the Philippines. The country wants to uphold international standards while realizing the local circumstances it is in. Filipino graduates are globally-competitive, finding employment in hospitals, industrial parks, international hotel chains and the like. The pandemic definitely brought significant changes to our higher education institutions. But some universities here like Silliman University in Dumaguete City, in the middle part of the Philippines; College of Saint Benilde, Metro Manila (an affiliate of De La Salle University, run by La Salle Brothers) and Mapua University have long established their online learning platforms so the pandemic was not so difficult a transition for them. Case Study: Cebu Doctors’ University, Cebu, Philippines, https://cebudoctorsuniversity.edu/ Cebu Doctors’ University is a premier medical institution in the Visayas region of the Philippines. It is known to produce board topnotchers in Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy etc. But CDU is also offering non-traditional, nonmedical programs like BS Computer Science, AB English with TEFL and AB International Studies. The writer teaches Economics courses in its AB International Studies program, which has tracks in Asian, American and European Studies. During the pandemic, our students who were scattered all over the world were able to continue studying when the University bought the Brightspace learning program and branded it to CELO +, www.brightspace.com/d2lhome. We have been using this online learning platform since June 2020 and the administration would like to exploit its use as much as possible. The writer have had students who joined the online classes from as far as South Africa, Dubai, Texas and California in the USA aside from the many other parts of Visayas and Mindanao in the Philippines where they were all situated and came from. These students abroad had to adjust to the timings in the Philippines for their online classes. Some of them may be on their way to Cebu, Philippines as we speak because the University plans to have some in person classes when the new school year starts in August. It’s not only the students who had to adjust but the faculty members too. They had to learn to navigate the online learning platform to hold classes, administer tests, receive homeworks etc., at the same time contend with our infamous internet signals in the country. It’s been a very interesting journey, to say the least. So in conclusion, higher education in the Philippines has a very promising future. If only these higher education institutions would be resilient enough to adjust to the change, for sure our universities and the graduates that they produce would have a long way to go, in life and in their careers.

IVANA TRUMP

She was reported dead last July 14, 2022 around 12:40 p.m. in her home in Upper East Side, New York. She was 73 yrs old daw. They said it was ruled as cardiac arrest. Wahh, I just knew lately that my former student in Senior High School, si Elizabeth Yoo who is Filipino-Korean, is already a student in our IS program. Sa iyang FB kay Dent p mn lagi ang nakabutang. Last sem ra daw siya nishift. Wala ko kahibaw man jud kay busy lagi pud ko kaju last 2nd sem from February to May 2022. She helped me out baya last December 2020 when I told her of Mr. Aloha. She told me then, 'he probably just finds you nice and friendly, Miss oi. Sounds like an interesting guy!' I said yes Elizabeth coz daghan xa'g mga ganap. Sus, kinsa b jud ang nagtuo di b nga nag-IS diay siya. So sila ni Bandillo ron ang kauban. They are part of the CDU-AB IS FB page man. 4 daw sila lagi nga freshmen sa among IS program. The gospel for this Sunday is about these two sisters. I thought I have fully understood the lesson from this episode in the gospel. Today is a gentle reminder from God. That we should not worry about anything, but just trust God. We should pray more according to Fr. Jerry Orbos today. We would never really say that we have overprayed daw. So sakto si Ate Rosemarie Zacal. Be busy but don't forget to pray. And best of all, I read up about Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint Arnold Janssen today. I want Saint Arnold Janssen to be my idol from now on. He was a man of prayer, of unshakeable trust in God - a man of deep faith. To think I was asked by Jayeel before in NUS, ganyan b ang faith mo Heide? Just what I need especially in these times of anxiety over my CHED studying. Trust more and worry less. Amen.

Today nataranta ko actually coz si Mam Jhe told us that we're having an in-person meeting tomorrow at 9am at CDU. Nag-email kos ahong mga syllabuses oi that could be needed tomorrow. Nagdali2 pud ko ug himos akong grado oi. Coz wala p mn ko nahuman ug check sa midterm exam sa Nursing klas lagi. And thankfully nahuman jud ko ug check. Thank you Lord. Decide n lng ko if iapil pb lagi tong assignment ni Mam Jhe o di n lng. So I finished 3 webinars today: with Dr. Michael Cucek at 830 am by ICAS, TUJ; G7 webinar by FPCI at 4pm and by YCAPS at 6pm on the impact of the Ukraine crisis on extended deterrence lagi daw. Btw cute the speaker who said kay academic man daw siya so he has 3 research questions? :) So I think ready n ko to come to CDU ugma pohon sa buntag. I can bring my laptop or I can just bring a headset coz I can access CELO ra man lagis among computer sa office. Jia you Doki, been a really long day!
