Today 8/29/21 is a learning Sunday. In the late morning I joined Bahay Tsinoy's launch of their online exhibit of Huaqiao's Lifestyle during the American Colonial Period. I received a text message last Sunday 8/23/21 morning that for vaccination na kos UCLM Backgate the next day. So didto n ko y'day and fortunately the whole thing took half the day lang. I got my 1st dose of Sinovac and for 2nd dose n ko ig Sept 20, 2021 phn. At least 3 wks behind ra kos akong colleagues. Di p gani daw sila sure nus-a ilang 2nd dose kay textsan ra daw sila. So mas organized diay nuon ang bakunahan sa Mandaue City. Thanks a lot and more power to the Mandaue City Government and to the men and women in the Mandaue City Vaccine Operations Center (VOC). Actually sa Pateros and Mandaluyong sa Metro Manila, manawat n mn sila ug di nila residents. Fortunately and after a very long time since the lockdown, CHED RO-7 gathered us this morning in a virtual meeting. I realized that wala p mn diay ko nangayo ug extension sa akong scholarship so most likely ang akong allowance from 2nd Sem AY 2019-2020 p to ang marelease phn. But I asked Russel n and iya ra nya tong ipa-LBC naho phn ang docs diris Cebu. Till May 2022 n phn akong scholarship so that di ko gahol sa oras sa akong research. I told him last year that I used to stalk E.N.'s Facebook. He'd said then, 'Great, please invite me to the wedding!' This time sya n cguro pud ang nalingaw coz kaduha n mn jud ko niya nasakpi nga nagreview lagis ahong last msg niya on Messenger. I did it first last 5/16/21 at around 8pm here in Philippines. Ganiha mga 11 am to so past 5pm in Hawaii. Baw n lng jud ko ani ay! On a lighter note, naresolve na ang akong conflict of schedule. Alternate n lng mis akong TTH classes. She posted a picture with her boyfriend on Facebook last Friday mn cguro to and I ended up asking when the wedding is. On September 14th lagi daw pohon. And since MECQ mn daw ron ang Cebu, she can't invite her college friends daw and even us her former teachers sa CDU. Ma-amaze jud ko ani niya buyag. Siya ra gud nakapakaon namos Buffet 101 shortly before her graduation. That must have been March 2017. Even her classmates gud didto pud. Actually, when I cleaned out my carrel lagi last July 6th, I saw her charcoal painting of me ages ago. I emailed Korea Foundation last night coz I wanna hit the ground running n lagi on my plans around Korean Studies or the establishment of a possible center pud sa CDU. Just this morning, my chair told me that I have a new student in our Econ 111 klas on Phil Economy coz nibalik lagis Venice. If I am not mistaken, mao ni siya ang shiftee from Nursing. Wala mn ni siya nieskwela since nagsugod ang online klases. Then si Maxine pud morag niundang since January 2021. So karon namalik sila. So it means we are doing the right things ra diay sa among program. We just need to hang on kay naa lng pud ilang kaugalingong circumstances among students. Jia you to us always!

HOMETOWN LOVE

I have watched several movies na by Hallmark Channel on Youtube that focuses on finding love in a small town. Here's my list: 1) At Home in Mitford - about a writer who inherited a house in Mitford, MA from her uncle. Her neighbor is a priest. She would eventually fall in love with the priest and with the town itself 2) the girl is a marketing executive from New York who moves to Montana. She would eventually start a calendar campaign in order to help the men of the search and rescue squad. The models would be the men themselves! ;) 3) Clyborne Ranch story - the girl is a reporter from Seattle, the guy is grandson of the owner of the ranch 4) Josie Mayfield - a girl who would meet her old high school sweetheart and bring him to her parents' 40th wedding anniversary celebration. This one is really hilarious. Griddley Maxwell is a driftwood artist plus so many other things! ;) 5) North Pole Christmas Village - the girl is a PR bigtime from New York while the guy is a widower with 2 adorable kids who runs the Christmas village 6) Together Forever Tea - the best story I have seen so far. The girl inherits a house too in Kissing Falls, CN from her aunt who has a tea shop. Naa diay silay history with a guy from London, England. Si Sir Nigel Newbury from the International Commission of Tea Sommeliers. She is made co-executor of her aunt's estate with this guy nga gardener. The girl is a single mother with a very beautiful daughter who is making ends meet working many jobs and studying p jud. Love the story. 8) Runaway Christmas Bride - Cindy Busby runs away from a guy who married her just to get money from his parents. The guy she would fall in love with is a ski patrol rescuer

Today 8/17/21 when I opened my FB, I saw Niña's post about her Covid experience. She's recovering now but she lost her baby pud. Sayang, but I'm sure there is a reason for all of these things to happen. I told her about God's promises in Zephaniah. I emailed Hawaii n lng pud kay I just felt that I had to talk to him again. Twas my experience chatting with Hannah last night that made me realize it. She said mn gud that basahon ra niya akong msgs kay busy xas work and later ra xa moreply if makalugar. I thought the same with him too. That that time when CCTV mode ra siya, it didn't mean that he felt bad with all the things that I said to him. Well, maybe at first. The rare breed of CDU IS had an orientation this afternoon. We have 3 freshmen this year - si Lily (she's Korean - shiftee from Biology), Sean Honorio and Dean Brian Baricuatro. Mga freshies jud sila. Sa STC daw nag-SHS si Sean and sa CDU si Brian. Then nibalik pud ug eskwela si Maxine Bruggeman and I know that giprocess pud ni Bang Ji Eun ang iyang reenrolment. So, for as long as na'koy kakampi lagi nga Koreano, okay ra jud ko bujag. Morag 10 tanan among students this sem. Nibalik mn ug eskwela si Venice. Sila Niña, Kyle and Steffi ang seniors namo. CHINOY

There's a 10-part documentary on CNN Philippines that's called Chinese by Blood, Filipino By Heart. They started last Aug. 8, 2021 at 8pm. The surprise of the show is Nicole Cordovez. I really didn't know that she has Chinese blood. Ang 2nd episode last night was si Ms Teresita Ang See and her work. Wow! I told her daughter Meah that in future when pwede n, I would like to pay a visit to Bahay Tsinoy in Intramuros. Si Joanalyn has been there n mn diay kuno. Yesterday I joined the webinar on the two ships from China, Guang Hua and Ming Hua. Dr Taomo Zhou from NTU ang nagpresent. Nakuwangan kos webinar actually. Coz lain lang ang akong pangagpas sa China's changing maritime power in Shenzhen. But at least I learned something new yesterday - the Yiwu-Madrid Rail line as part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). I know NUS has a Center for Maritime Studies. I had wanted to affiliate with them back in 2005-2006. All the best to us always!

I once told a Pinoy friend in NUS that I live in a small town in Bohol. It is called Tubigon and I feel that everyone knows everyone there. Katawa ko kay lately my high school batchmate talked about people in our batch nga nagminyo pero wa kuno pud lagi mga anak. Then I suddenly realized that gamay ra kaju ilang world, simple ra kaju sila'g mga kalipay diay. Imagine, pasalubungan lng ka'g tsinelas or sapatos mahalon okay n? Most of my batchmates work in Metro Manila and there are some who are already working abroad. Mag-pearl anniversary (30th year after high school graduation) n mn lagi kuno mi ig May 2022 pohon so they are now talking of a get-together ig December phon and ang big celebration next year lagi kuno. His song 'Kauanoeanuhea' (Cool Fragrant Mist) is the first track sa Hawaii CD 1 that Mike gave me. I love it and all his songs. He is actually a gay singer. 'Puna' short for 'Punahele' ang iyang tawag sa iyang partner nga si Fred Krauss b to. He grew up in Maui, in the plantation house of his grandmother daw that was by the beach. So datuon diay ni siya. But anyway, sikat n siya ron and he'd always have hula dancers especially the plump ones when he performs. His songs are very sentimental jud and would make you miss Hawai'i even more. Kudos!

KOREAN MIGRATION

The University of Hawaii at Manoa Campus (UH-Manoa) has a Center for Korean Studies. It's not just for the Korean language but Korean studies jud in general. Apparently, Philippines is among the top ten destination of Korean migrants all over the world. And Cebu is where the most number of Korean migrants are. Yeah I can understand. There is a condominium in Lapulapu called Saekyung di b for the Korean retirees? They are in Metro Manila, Baguio, Angeles, Pampanga too. Etc. I remember the Eat Bulaga dancer Dasuri Choi. She came to Philippines daw in order to see her grandfather.. The Korean celebrities here in RP I know of are Sandara Park, Sam Oh, Grace Lee, Sunny Kim and the guy sa My Korean Jagiya. Now I need to decide if I want to pursue this Korean migration for my postdoc or something else. I pray to God for guidance pud. Jia you Doki!
