The writer teaches Economics courses in its AB International Studies program, which has tracks in Asian, American and European Studies. During the pandemic, our students who were scattered all over the world were able to continue studying when the University bought the Brightspace learning program and branded it to CELO +, www.brightspace.com/d2lhome. We have been using this online learning platform since June 2020 and the administration would like to exploit its use as much as possible. The writer have had students who joined the online classes from as far as South Africa, Dubai, Texas and California in the USA aside from the many other parts of Visayas and Mindanao in the Philippines where they were all situated and came from. These students abroad had to adjust to the timings in the Philippines for their online classes. Some of them may be on their way to Cebu, Philippines as we speak because the University plans to have some in person classes when the new school year starts in August. It’s not only the students who had to adjust but the faculty members too. They had to learn to navigate the online learning platform to hold classes, administer tests, receive homeworks etc., at the same time contend with our infamous internet signals in the country. It’s been a very interesting journey, to say the least. So in conclusion, higher education in the Philippines has a very promising future. If only these higher education institutions would be resilient enough to adjust to the change, for sure our universities and the graduates that they produce would have a long way to go, in life and in their careers.

This must be a day to remember. At 9am I was in a webinar organised by ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute of Dr. Michael Green, renowned scholar on US-Japan affairs on the US Indo Pacific Economic Framework. He is the head of the US Center on Strategic Studies b to in Sydney. Then suddenly at around noontime, I heard the news of the assasination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Nara. He was campaigning for a candidate daw in Nara, Japan for the Upper House elections on July 10th. Tsk tsk, I'm sure the world has lost a truly great leader. Good morning to us all and aloha!

Then I went to CDU to drop off my graduation present to Anika at her dad's ofc sa RS. Then I went to CAS faculty room n lng pud. Didto si Mam Jhe among chair. Gusto ta siya makadawat sa akong papers for CHED funding request sa conference in Holland in mid-October lagi phn but busy man si Ms Berns gud kay tua n xas Admissions Ofc lagi. Sa Monday n lng cguro to nako hikayon pohon oi. Then I went to SM City Cebu in order to meet Sir Jason and his family. They are here on vacation kay graduation daw pud ni misis nya ugma phn sa USJR-Basak. Y'day they were in Bohol. Nag-overnight diay kuno sila didto oi with Sir Renante and his family. Maayo aron nagbonding sila. Gihatod daw pud sila ni Sir Nante sa pantalan sa Tagbilaran. Wow! At least nagkita lagi ang friends and classmates from Silliman University. After lunch nagbuwag n mn pud mi kay nagsige mn ko ug panghuy-ab lagi. I also thought they needed to rest kay gikan pas byahe lagi. Salamat sa pagbisita.
