Today marks Papa's 17th death anniversary. Niuli si Bantil so at least kompleto ang 4 girls. Galing lang, busy si Ate Ica patambal ni Teody kay on and off kuno ija hilanat. SU Studying

I started studying in SU in November 2017. Actually I enrolled in June 2017 but I was given full load mn sa Senior High on Entrepreneurship so I decided to defer my scholarship for the next semester. When I started kapoy kaju kay momeet mn to namo si Dr Cleope ug Friday nights then klase n pud mi sa Sabado sunod. Dungan diay mi start ni Sir Renante Avergonzado who's incidentally celebrating his bday today 4/13/19. But giagwanta lng jud to naho tanan, including ang aho karag2 pag-adto ni Jung2 Tortor sa Palm Heights. Nahuman ra mn pud ko ug 48 units bujag after 4 terms nga full time load. This summer 2019 mahuman n gud kos ako coursework phn. God indeed loves me and never leaves my side. I keep the faith always.

I am very happy coz Dr Aplaon gave me this grade in his Phil Socio-Anthro course for this semester. The other 3.8 I got from Mam Dina Remoto last summer in her Mandarin class. Jia you Doki, hopefully up and up na imo grades. Saun, nasubhan man sa 3.6 from Dr Cleope. I really dunno why kadto ako grado. I remember passing my final essay for his class very early. I passed it before I left for CDO last Holy Week. But wa lng naho maapil ang Thailand nga ija gimention in klas. Nawa pud sa aho huna2. Cge lang, for this sem wa n mn koy final reqts for Phil. Any from Indonesia

She's my ARD classmate from Indonesia. Dungan mis eroplano from KL to A'dam back in 2000. But upon arriving in Holland, she had somewhere to go so nagkita n lng mis school after a few days. Duha sila ni Giri ako klasm8s from Indo. Apparently she is a pilot but has her own NGO in Bandung now. Before sa Bogor mn to. She works with farmers. She said her husband didn't know she had an NGO till they were married I think. Heheh. She even went to Cuba for her thesis. Atta girl buyag! Typical sa mga Indonesian especially mga academic to have NGOs. Morag imperative for them to do so sa kalisud sa ila nasud. They had to suffer pud baya under Soekarno when Pinoys were suffering under Marcos. Jia you to us! Indeed, big surprises come in small packages. Heheh.

Research and I

Di mn kaju ko ganahan magresearch though I had the exposure of course sa USC. I think I was a 3rd year student when apil mis research ni Mam Ching about the demand for softdrinks in Cebu. Field work mis Danao City ato. Then for fourth year we had to do our own thesis. Wa jud ko magkadimao ato ako survey of the informal sector in Brgy San Juan, Cebu City. Nipis ra kaju tawn ako final report. And 2.5 ang gihatag nga grade ni Mam Ching naho. She was head of Affiliated Nonconventional Energy Center (ANEC) then and she gave me a table sa silong. Di jud ko tiglingkod didto. Then this was how I met Harry too coz bisita mn sija ni Mam Ching for two years. Anyway, I eventually found myself in the Netherlands in 2000-2001. Human nako ato ug coursework sa ako MA Economics sa USC. I got the NFP fellowship and flew to Holland in September 2000. I had to return in October 2001 for 2 weeks coz my father died. And when I came back to Holland, I had to finish my thesis so that I could graduate. Suffice it to say that nahuman jud kos Netherlands buyag. When I came back to work in January 2002, I tried to finish my thesis sa MA Econ. But I had a family crisis later in the year when Nang Anel got pregnant out of wedlock. She gave birth gud on the day of my proposal hearing. After sa proposal hearing diretso kos Our Lady of the Rule Hospital in Mactan. That was the first time I saw my nephew Biboy cradled by Ate Ica in her arms. Heheh, how fast time flies. Ulitawo na ron ang Beato :) I was very fortunate that the article I submitted to PQCS from my thesis was published in September 2003. I was asked to peer review pud one time. Then in September 2004 I got involved in Water REMIND project sa mga Aboitiz. Nagresearch mi didtos kabukiran sa Cebu, unahan pas Cebu Plaza. I met Ferolini Matahum this way. He kept telling me that naniguwang na ang lubi. Kapoy ka. Attorney n mn ron ang okoy. Daghan na'g kwarta; cge na xa'g larga2. I had to leave USC in 2005-2006 coz I got accepted sa NUS. But gikapuyan n pud kos USC ato coz Econ Dev sa PolSci majors ra mn ako gitudluan. I felt that I didn't belong to the department anymore coz di n mn ko kaila sa mga Econ majors namo. Wa ko magkadimao sa NUS and I went home in June 2006. Mam Ching helped to get me reinstated sa USC. I stayed there till October 2007 coz ganahan n mn jud ko mohawa. I came back to Singapore in January 2008 but I only lasted one month. I left for Cambodia in February 2008 around Chinese New Year and stayed there till November 2008. I went home coz di mn jud to mao ako gusto, ang mag-OFW. I processed my retirement sa USC then came back to Cambo in October 2009. For interview ta kos DLSU in June 2009 but I didn't show up. In October 2010 I decided to go home to take care of our elders. I found work in CDU in November 2010. Been there since. I now contribute to research as research representative. There is Horizon 2020 that I bumped into last 17 October at the dissemination session in Shangrila Mactan. Collaborative work ni sija between EU and Southeast Asia. Wait p mis next call either in May or June daw next year pohon kay nilabay n mn ang deadline. June 2018 mn ang call so nideadline last September 18. Wa mi sultihi ni Mam Fe sa Research Council. Basin tuo cja nga di mi interesado. Cge lng Mam, may araw k rin. I found a possible collaborator already from Wageningen WUR. As much as possible I wouldn't want the Research Office to touch our study if ever madayon. Mangita sija'g ijaha oi. As Research Representative sa Social Sciences Dept in the CDU-CDUH Research Council, I am glad I stayed on. Hinrich Foundation Seminar @UV

I was late for the seminar by the Hinrich Foundation on Trade Sustainability Index today at UV Colon. It was presided over by Alexander Boome, program director of Hinrich Foundation for Philippines. He basically talked about the sustainable trade index that they have asked The Economist to come up with. Sayang lang kay dili economics ang background sa iyang audience. Kasagaran Public Administration man. He also told us of the Sustainable Trade Challenge, an essay writing competition for graduate students. Di na ko ka-attend sa trade simulation activity tomorrow ug Sunday @UP Cebu SRP kay magpresent p lagi kos ako proposal sa klas ni Dr Ora. I contacted somebody from Wageningen na. I think mas suitable jud didto nila ang ako gisuwat nga proposal for the feasibility of solar-powered irrigation in RP & Indonesia. Si Prof Justus Wesseler ako kaemail. He found our proposal interesting. However, nilabay n mn ang deadline for the 2nd call so wait n lng mis 3rd call sometime in May or June 2019 daw phn. There will be another call p jud kuno in 2020. Maexcite mn pud ta ani. Jia you Doki!

Presentation Done

I finished my presentation for Dr Oracion's research class yday. There were 3 other Masters in Public Health students plus 1 Doctor of Public Admin student too. Hatagan n daw ko niya ug grado. Thanks Lord. Si Sir Butch wala p k present. Sa next sem n lng kuno siya mocomply. Amen. Good luck Sir Butch! Horizon 2020 @Shangri-La Mactan

On Wednesday, 17 October 2018 in the afternoon till evening, I was at Shangri-La Mactan for the Horizon 2020 European Commission info dissemination session. Research Agenda nila from 2020 till 2027 ang gidiscuss didto. How to look for partners etc. SU ang partner institution nila for that session. I saw my klasm8 si Mam Glynnis Casiño there. I got inspired by this so I emailed my Dutch friends Harry O, Gerrit K, Guus v W for possible contact. Dihay taga-UU nga si Prof Junginger but di mn makontak. Last night upon coming home from Dumaguete I checked my email and saw the reply of Gerrit. He referred me to Dr Raoul Frese. He was quite receptive so I developed a concept paper for this. Solar-powered irrigation ako nakit-an. I emailed them to Any (my Indonesian friend and possible collaborator) and Dr Frese na. However, his line of work is much different from what we wanted to do so I emailed somebody from Wageningen. Wait n lng mis next call for proposals phn. wow, I keep the faith. Amen. All praise and glory be to You, Lord. Incidentally, wala lagi mi ingna anis amo Research Council. 2014 p mn diay nagsugod ang Horizon 2020. TRH Duke and Duchess of Sussex are in Australia for their official tour there in time for the opening of Invictus Games this year in Sydney. Then it was announced that Meghan Markle is pregnant with their first child. Wow! Long live the British Royal Family! Last Saturday, 10/13/18 nagpresent na sila sa ilang proposals sa klas ni Dr Ora on the abovementioned subject. Kami ni Sir Butch wa pa kapresent. Absent pud sila Mam Jane ug Sir Ruben. Ija pa kuno basahon ang aho content. Tuesday, 10/9/18 pa gud ko nagsubmit. La na nija basaha kay daghan mn diay kaju nagpresent last Sat sa ija pud lain klases. I hope next Sat 10/20/18 makapresent pud ko aron di ko mahagbong sa ija klase. Simbako intawn Lord. Incidentally we had a working lunch last Saturday pud. Sila Sir Kim, Mam Wilyn ug Mam Eden ang nag-order sa amo lunch. We just paid P265 each but nakadala ko bring haus kay diha may sobra sa kan-on ug sa fish. Ako gihatag ang rice sa taga-Aldea ug ang sobra pud naho sa fish. Ila Sir Kim na ang sobra sa chicken. Thanks for all the blessings Lord. Finals Na!

And just like that, it will be finals week next week. Nahuman ra jud tawn another very challenging but very fruitful semester. Twice I went to Metro Manila gud. First for the visa interview at the US embassy last August 2018 then 2nd for the PSA National Conference last Sept 2018. I have finished all my papers for Dr Aplaon's class so morag k Dr Rivera nga book review for Oct 22 phn + k Dr Ora nga PPT presentation for Oct 20 pud phn n lng ako himuon. I keep the faith.

Hinrich Foundation Trade Negotiation Simulation, Cebu 2018

When we were at USC for the World Bank Forum last Friday, Sir Largo mentioned to me this event at UP Cebu. It will be on 27-28 October at the UP SRP campus kuno. I emailed Sir Largo over the weekend and was informed that the deadline has passed. Kay adtong October 5 ra daw. I emailed the organizers, and lo and behold, they considered CDU students. Their representative, Ms Maryann Dacuyanan even came here today 10/9/18 and did a presentation to our students. They're quite hesitant to join coz specific mn xa to trade. Di mn gud kaju nindut to ila International Econ so makuyawan sila. But more or less they are interested. I have come up with a background material for them so that di n sila maignorante about it. World Bank Forum at USC, 10/5/18

There was the World Bank Forum at USC last Friday. I brought about 20 students there. Meaningful ra pud amo participation coz Diola and AJ asked questions man. Sosyal oi kay libre ang lunch ug snack and they even gave us a USB in the shape of a key as souvenir. Grabe. Till next time! Si FML was there as reactant. He asked if my companions were my students. There will be a public dissemination event for this thing at Shangri-La Mactan on 17 Oct phn. This is the EU program on innovation for the next 2 yrs mn cguro. Si Mam Lovic ra ang naay confirmation. At least next sem phn, isa ra n amo rsrch group nya after 2 yrs pa amo next offering kay la mn mi 1st yr last yr. Ig 3rd yr 2nd sem mn namo ning ila kuti kaju nga research process. Jayeel Cornelio

This time I would have known him for 13 years. I met him at Techno Edge canteen, Engineering side at the National University of Singapore (NUS) on 23 Sept 2005. I just came back from Philippines then. I snuck a trip home coz naglisud mn ko ato sa akong Advance Macro under Prof Aditya Goenka. He was introduced to me by another friend, Christian Bustamante who is his friend from ADMU. I remember giving each of them a pack of dried mangoes. Fast forward to the present. We chatted on FB Messenger yday, 10/1/18. Nakalugar uroy sya. There was a time when I thought di na mi friends coz he wouldn't respond to my messages. Another friend from NUS, Jonathan Coronel from DLSU but now working in SG would tell me that baka busy lang. Tinuod jud diay. I last saw Leeyaj in February 2009. I was in Metro Manila then for training while I was affiliated with Fr Jovic's NGO in Legaspi. We met at the end of our training sa PCFC. Post-Valentine dinner n lng tos MOA. He treated me to a Thai dinner sa Jatujak Resto. He bought pasalubong pud for his mom. He was leaving for Lancaster then for his dissertation under Dr Linda Woodhead. He drove me to the Baclaran MRT. I think I kissed him goodbye on the cheek. He was here in Cebu in February last year. Wala mi magkita. Busy mn gud siya kay sa PSS mn to ila gisabutan. He said he got sick pud. He was in Iligan in July last year I think. Friends mn sila Septrin 'Badz' Calamba who is a young and budding academic from MSU-IIT. He gave a course there on Religion mn cguro to. Last December 1st weekend he was here in Cebu again but wa japon mi magkita. I was in Dumaguete mn gud and I only read his pm sa Messenger when I was back here in Cebu. Nakabalik n sya Manila for sure. Told him that one of these days we would meet again to catch up. It might happen soon. I keep the faith. :)
